Over the past ten years, many educational institutions have expanded their international student programs. During this time, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of State reviews of these institutions has grown tremendously as have the tracking and reporting requirements placed upon educational institutions. Staying current with the many Student and Visitor Information System (SEVIS) requirements can be daunting and serious errors can jeopardize a school’s ability to enroll international students.
Guidepost Solutions recently completed a detailed F-visa review for a university. The university was having difficulty obtaining their approval for an I-17 update (petition for approval of a school to enroll non-immigrant students) and received an investigative visit from federal regulators.
We conducted a detailed review of their international student program which comprised of a high percentage of their student population. The review consisted of a best practices and regulatory assessment of their enrollment, grading, maintenance of status, and employment authorization programs (CPT/OPT) and resulted in numerous recommendations for enhancement to their program.
